Community members are invited to an afternoon of learning, sharing and connecting with plants and medicines before construction begins on the Sustainable Housing Initiative’s new family housing development.
With the guidance of Kanehsatà:ke Elder John Cree, and with partners Nouveaux Voisins, participants will:
• Learn to identify plants and medicines found on the land
• Learn their Kanienké:ha names and about their uses
• Learn about traditional plant identification and harvesting
• Harvest selected plants and medicines
• Help preserve what is found on the land by creating a community herbarium to be displayed at the Language & Culture Center as a teaching resource for future generations
The MCK Language & Culture Center will document the gathering and help record the knowledge shared through photographs.
All Kanehsatakehró:non are welcome.
Please dress appropriately for being outdoors and walking on the land.
