Homeownership Programs

Private Dwelling Renovation Program

This program applies to private houses in need of major interventions. The program gives the beneficiary households an opportunity to sensibly improve their dwelling conditions. The Mohawk Council of Kanehsatà:ke and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in the scope of the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) subsidize it to a maximum amount of $25,000 per household.

  • The program simplifies access to funding for major repairs, emergency repairs and adaptations, to prioritize and support:

    • Low-income households (annual revenue of less than $34,500)
    • Seniors and individuals with disabilities
    • Comprehensive assistance with major or emergency repairs to ensure ongoing health and safety for occupants
    • Support for accessibility modifications and minor adaptations
    • Assistance in the creation of additional space or the conversion of properties
    • Ensuring the affordability of housing, where applicable

The financial support is provided in the form of a contribution: if all the approved repairs are completed within 12 months, the funds do not need to be repaid.

Subsidized Private Dwelling Program - Grants

Limited to one per person per lifetime. The Mohawk Council of Kanehsatà:ke pays a subsidy of $40,000 to households selected in conformity with the criteria of the Housing Policy. This subsidy includes the contribution of the Council for the feeding of drinkable water and the sewer system of the residence, as a loan likely to become a gracious hand over that the owner earns over a period of 10 years.

Limited to one per person per lifetime. In the case where the applicant plans to buy an existing house, the subsidy paid by the Mohawk Council of Kanehsatà:ke is in the amount of $27,000.

Residential Adaptation Assistance Program (RAAP)

The RAAP is a provincial program for people with significant and persistent disabilities, who are likely to encounter obstacles in performing everyday activities. Its goal is to allow the person to enter and leave their home, to access essential rooms, and to perform activities of everyday life safely. This program provides financial assistance to the owners of a dwelling occupied by a person with a disability so that the adaptation work can be carried out.
