Ministerial Loan Guarantee Program

The Ministerial Loan Guarantee (MLG) Program helps eligible First Nation members access financing to build, buy, or renovate a home on reserve. This program allows the Government of Canada to guarantee housing loans on behalf of eligible individuals, reducing the risk for lenders and making homeownership possible on reserve. Most loans under this program are issued through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), with some provided by other approved financial institutions.

The Ministerial Loan Guarantee:

  • Replaces the need for collateral
  • Allows lenders to finance on-reserve housing
  • Supports safe and accessible homeownership for First Nation members

There is no fixed deadline: Ministerial Loan Guarantees are issued throughout the year, as needed.

Applications for individual homeownership must follow the requirements set out in the Ministerial Loan Guarantee Toolkit for Individual Homeownership.

Financial Transparency & Accountability

The Mohawk Council of Kanehsatà:ke approaches the management of public funds with openness and accountability, in accordance with the First Nations Financial Transparency Act. Annual budgets are developed to align with community priorities and approved by Council.

Budget updates and financial highlights are shared periodically in News and Updates, to keep the community informed of major developments, funding allocations, and financial planning decisions.
